Outokumpu Oyj, F3 extension of the ferrochrome plant, Tornio
The F3 project of Outokumpu’s ferrochrome plant was the world’s largest ferrochrome smelting plant and the steel plant with the most integrated operations upon its opening in 2013. The factory area houses the ferrochrome plant, smelting plant, and mills for hot and cold rolling processes. With an extension project, the factory doubled its ferrochrome production to 530,000 tonnes by 2015. In total, 12,000 tonnes of steel structures were required, half of which were used for the smelting plant’s frame. The project used about 70,000 cubic metres of concrete.
