Luumäki-Imatra double-track railway
The part of the Karelian Railway running between Joutseno and Imatra is undergoing work in preparation for the construction of a double-track section as part of the Luumäki–Imatra railway project. The goal is to increase goods cargo capacity and reduce the number of disruptions in rail transport. To enable the construction of the 19-kilometre double-track section, the current track must be improved and a new track must be built next to it, in addition to 12 bridges. On the section running between Luumäki and Joutseno, the flow of rail traffic will be made more efficient through improvements, which include changes to the railway yards and the extension of passing loops.
