AINS Group gets emission reduction targets approval by Science Based Targets initiative
AINS Group has joined the select group of construction companies with science-based targets for reducing greenhouse gases, helping to limit global warming beyond 1.5 ºC. The international Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) has approved the company’s targets.
AINS Group, a design and consulting company for the built environment, boosts its climate-related work by committing to the emission reduction targets approved by the Science Based Targets initiative. Systematic reduction of greenhouse gases has in fact been part of the corporate responsibility goals and reporting of AINS Group for a number of years.
Quick and sufficiently sizeable global emission reductions are still key to slowing down global warming.
– Low-emission solutions and increasing awareness about climate issues are key aspects of our expertise and handprint in construction projects. We are showing to our customers and stakeholders that we are genuinely committed to reducing greenhouse gases through our operations, and to pioneer this work in the construction industry,” says AINS Group CEO Kari Kauniskangas.
At AINS Group, emissions reduction is navigated by means of a decarbonisation roadmap, containing all key measures to be taken to reduce emissions in the context of energy use and space utilisation, means of commuting, and acquisitions and subcontracting. AINS Group reports on progress with its climate work in its annual sustainability report.
Emission reduction goals of AINS Group by 2028
- Scope 1 and 2 emissions
We reduce absolute Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 35% from the 2023 level. This goal is in line with the Paris Climate Agreement - Scope 3 emissions
We commit to reducing scope 3 GHG emissions from fuel- and energy-related activities, upstream transportation and distribution and employee commuting 45 % per employee from the 2023 levels. - Commitment of AINS Group suppliers
69% of its suppliers by emissions covering purchased goods and services and capital goods will have science-based targets by 2028.
– To achieve sufficient climate action, significant emission reductions are necessary throughout the construction value chain. We support our customers in these efforts, and also expect our own suppliers and subcontractors to be ambitious,” says Liisa Jäätvuori, executive vice president, corporate development and sustainability.
– By selecting 2023 as the base year of our climate target, we have not made it too easy for ourselves. We have already taken many major steps towards reducing our greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions along the years.”
The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) is a global effort to support organisations to set GHG targets in line with the latest climate science findings. The target is to limit global warming to 1.5 ºC and ramp up efforts to halve emissions before 2030 and to reach the target of zero emissions by 2050. The project is supported by CDP (Carbon Disclosure Project), UN Global Compact, World Resources Institute (WRI) and World Wildlife Fund (WWF).
